This week we recorded our instillation pieces. I was very happy with the result, the spread of elements of the song worked very well across the speakers. I feel that a bit louder and in a darker-lit and more ambient environment, the track would have been very emotional and brooding. I think it worked better with fewer people walking around, as it represented the track as more skeletal and bare bones.
when all the tracks played at once the reverb became somewhat muddy and overwhelming, but this was desired as my intention was for it to be a very distorted and industrial mix. I think the installation was my favourite part of composition for media, as I got to approach it from a more song based approach, with the sound serving as the main focus. In the other briefs, composition existed purely to enhance video. While this is still an incredible art form, I struggle to tack my creative thoughts onto these fully formed ideas. However I did pick up some good techniques, especially In regards to a-tonality and tonal ambiguity. I want to use this when I score again as it was a good way of keeping music going with out reflecting any emotion too strongly, making it perfect for scenes that aren’t too emotionally charged and making the listening experience less fatiguing for the viewer.
